The new 90210 is a teen drama developed by Rob Thomas, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs. It is the fourth series in the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise created by Darren Star. The series revolves around the Wilson family along with numerous other students at West Beverly Hills High, where Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon Wilson (Tristan Wilds) begin attendance. Their father, Harry Wilson , returns from Kansas to his childhood home of Beverly Hills with his family to care for his mother, former television star Tabitha Wilson, who has a drinking problem. Annie and Dixon struggle to adjust to their new lives while making new friends and adhering to their parents’ wishes.

The show is about Annie Wilson and her brother Dixon who moved from Kansas to the big state of California. There parents wanted to move to 90210 to watch over Tabitha, Harry’s mother. Being the new kid in school can make you feel some what awkward. But what about being the new kid and having your dad as the principal? This is how Annie and Dixon have it. Annie is a sweet good looking girl who likes theater and Dixon is a wonderful athlete. Dixon was also adopted by the Wilson family. The show shows all the difficulties that Dixon and Annie go through as they make new friends.

Before the premiere, Thomas announced that he was leaving the series to focus on other projects. Sachs and Judah were hired as the new executive producers and wrote a new version of the Thomas script. Midway through the first season, Sachs and Judah stopped writing for the series and were replaced by Rebecca Rand Kirshner. Kirshner signed a deal with the producers to serve as executive producer and showrunner for the second and third seasons. The series was picked up for a full season with 24 episodes and renewed for a second season of 22 episodes.
